In his writings, Sultan Bahu (RA) refers to Syed Abdul Qadir Jilani(RA) as his spiritual master, who plays a special role in the mystic world. All orders and saints consider Syed Abdul Qadir Jilani(RA) as Grand Master and are forever indebted to him in some way or the other. While acknowledging that he is a follower of Jilani’s Qadria Order, Sultan Bahu (RA) initiated an offshoot of his own which he named Sarwari Qadri.
Hadrat Sultan Bahu’s Sarwari Qadri tradition (or Sufi Order) is similar in its overall philosophy to the Qadri Order. Unlike many other Sufi orders, the Sarwari Qadri tradition does not prescribe a specific dress code, ascetic practices, breathing exercises, etc. Instead, it focuses on practising mental exercises, an important one, being the visualization of the word الله (Allah) as written on one’s own heart or on other body parts from inside.
The disciples of Sultan Bahu’s Order are liberated souls, who by spiritual labour, prayer, self-discipline, and Tasawwur-e-Isme-Dhat attain perfect identity with Allah. They reach the station of unity through ceaseless remembrance and meditation, and achieve certainty of knowledge, experience, and actualization.
